Al Kobe Gone Home

The Jack Kohler Campership Association posted this to their membership on learning about the passing of Al Kobe.  I’m re-posting here for you.  Unfortunately, we still have no information regarding the arrangements.  I will post any as soon as we get them.

Dear Members and Friends,

It is with great sadness that we let you know about the passing of member AL KOBE.

Al had been ill for a number of months, but we thought he was on the road to strength and health.  We saw him most recently as we honored him at the Association luncheon and he was in his usual great humor and spirits.

For more than 20 years, Al was the lead for the No-Name Cooking crew and would come up with unique, special meals for the honor weekends. Al and his crew took pride in serving wonderful meals, each year, different from the one before.

Al was a veteran of the US Army, having served in combat in Vietnam.

Al got involved in Scouting when he hooked up with Pack and Troop 164 and then Troop 106 in Middle Village in 1983.  In his years with the units he served as Assistant Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and member of the Troop Committee.

He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for 23 years for the council and district provisional camps.  He has chaired numerous district camporees and winteorees.

Al has received the Scoutmaster’s Key, District Key Three, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, George Meany Award, James E. West Fellowship, and Founders Award.

Al is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, receiving it in 2000 with the name ‘Serving One From Across The River’.  Al spent 26 years as the chairman of the Suanhacky Lodge “No Names”, the lodge’s cooking crew, and continues for Kintecoying Lodge.

Outside of Scouting, Al is a member of many veterans and civic organizations, including the VFW, Rotary, Rotarian International, and others.  He has received numerous recognitions from these organizations.

At this point we do not know of any of the arrangements, but will advise you as soon as we know.

May God rest the soul of our friend, Al Kobe.
