Summer Camp Medicals Update

We are a month away from the second week of summer camp and I still haven’t received all the medicals yet.  If you’re unsure whether or not you provided me with a medical, please ask me.  For privacy reasons I won’t post a list.

If your son comes to summer camp without a medical or an incomplete one, he will not be able to participate in events until you provide the camp with a complete medical. The Troop leaders will not be responsible for bringing any youth to town for medical completion.  If you come to camp with the medical, you will have to wait until after the camp completes medical re-check before you will be able to leave.

Summer Camp Info

We are 1 month away from summer camp and now is the perfect time to make sure you have everything you will need.  Here is a link to the parents guide, which should answer all your questions:

 tmr guide parents version ’17.

Scouts need to arrive on Sunday before Noon.  When you enter the camp from Crystal Lake Road, follow camp road to stop sign.  You will be directed to where you should park.  If for some reason you must drive to the campsite, even though this is discouraged, as you drive up Gordon Bennett Way, please park at Camp Site 3A, which is right on Gordon Bennett Way.  Do not drive to Camp Site 3B as that road is narrow and other Camp Sites are along that road,  your vehicle will be blocking the road.  If you need to contact us, for any reason, please call the camp.  Cellphone service is spotty at best and we will most likely not receive your call for days.  Call: 845-252-2023.  This is the camp office number which is monitored 24/7.  They can give you directions and/or contact us and we can reach you with a hard line from the office.

A checklist on what you should bring and what you should not bring is in the parent’s guide.  Please bring your mess kits and a canteen or water bottle.

Any questions please feel free to ask!

Summer Camp Medical Reminder

Next Friday is our last Friday night meeting.  If you are planning to go to summer camp we need your completed medicals before we go to summer camp, not at summer camp.  The reason for this is if the medical is incomplete, your son will not be able to participate in any activities until you provide a completed medical.  The medicals are online at https://www.tenmileriver.org/files/7119/TMR-Medical-Form.  Please use this updated (2017) copy of the medical only as it reflects any changes.

Furthermore, please insert your health insurance information on Part B, your doctor must sign Part C where indicated and attach a copy front and back of your health insurance card.  Please complete the OTC Medical Form.  If your son is going for two weeks, the NYS Department Health requires you to complete the Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Response Form.

After next Friday’s meeting, if you still haven’t given us your medical, you will be responsible to get it to me.

BSA Policy Regarding Text Messaging Between Adult Leaders and Youth Members

Please read the linked article from Scouting magazine regarding text messages and Youth Protection.  Eventhough I have spoken about this in the past, it is still going on.  Youth members in Scouting can not text Adult Leaders without including another adult in the text. The other adult can be your parent.  All the Adult Leaders in the Troop are aware of this policy.  This policy extends to Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat or any other electronic/digital media where one to one contact can take place.
